In September 2021, Recurrent Energy, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canadian Solar, sold an 80% stake in the energy storage project to Axium Infrastructure (Axium). Recurrent Energy retained 20% ownership in the facility. Crimson Storage is developed on public lands about 13 miles west of Blythe, in Riverside County, California.
When did Recurrent Energy start developing Crimson storage?
Recurrent Energy began developing Crimson Storage and our larger energy storage pipeline in 2015 when no large-scale storage projects yet existed. Last year, we started bringing these projects to fruition also thanks to our CSI Energy Storage team.
Where is the Crimson energy storage project located?
The entire project includes approximately 2,000 acres of BLM-managed land, located 13 miles west of Blythe in Riverside County. The Crimson Energy Storage Project is in an area analyzed and identified as suitable for renewable energy development as part of BLM’s Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan Land Use Plan Amendment.
How much land does Crimson storage use?
The entire project, including the storage and the solar facility, will include about 2,000 acres of land administered by the BLM. According to Recurrent Energy, Crimson Storage is the first standalone energy storage project that gained approval to site on BLM lands under the Biden Administration.
